Genomics

Genomics is the study of the genetic information of plants, including their DNA sequences, gene functions, and interactions between genes and the environment. In collaboration with the Bioinformatics centre we make use of high-throughput sequencing technologies, bioinformatics tools, and other molecular biology techniques to investigate the genetic composition and regulation of plant/ pathogen genomes. By understanding the genetic basis of desirable traits such as yield, disease resistance, and drought tolerance we aim to develop more efficient and targeted breeding programs to produce better crops with improved economic value. We also study the evolutionary history and diversity of pathogenic species by comparing the genomes of different pathogens and reconstruct their evolutionary relationships and gain insights into how they have adapted to different conditions.
