“The Phytophthora Genome sequencing is a significant achievement of the ICAR network project on Phytophthora, Fusarium and Ralstonia (PhytoFuRa) being operational in seventeen research organizations across the country, including IISR,” said Dr. M Anandaraj, Director, IISR and coordinator of the network project.
According to the researchers, the decoding of the genome will give clues about the regions to be targeted for the successful control of this important plant pathogen. The database will also enable scientists and students to mine the data for getting insights on the biology and genetic makeup of Phytophthora foot rot pathogen and to carry out research in a collaborative manner.
