Bean yellow mosaic virus
Family : Potyviridae
Genus : Potyvirus
Acronym : BYMV
Introduction
Bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) is a plant pathogenic virus belonging to the genus Potyvirus. BYMV is a monopartite flexuous rod shaped virus with positive-sense, single-stranded RNA surrounded by a capsid made for a single viral encoded protein. Bean virus 2, Gladiolus mosaic virus, Gloriosa stripe mosaic virus are few synonyms.
Major Diseases
Mosaic disease/Streak Disease
Geographical Distribution
Wide spread in India.
Particle Morphology
A virus with flexuous particles about 750 nm long.
Transmission Method
Transmitted by a vector Aphis fabae, A. gossypii, Brevicoryne brassicae and Myzus persicae(Aphididae) in a non-persistent manner. Virus is also transmitted by mechanical inoculation and by seed.
Detection
Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) using Bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) specific primers and ELISA.
