Beet curly top virus

Introduction
Beet curly top virus (BCTV) is a plant pathogenic virus belonging to the genus Curtovirus. It is known to infect sugarbeet, beetroot,bean,tomato etc. Sugarbeet curly top virus, Sugarbeet curly-leaf virus, Tomato yellows virus, Western yellow blight virus are few strains usually seen.

Particle Morphology
Virions are geminate paticle 18-22 nm in diameter.
Transmission Method
Transmitted by a vector Circulifer tenellus, C. opacipennis (Cicadellidae); Transmitted in a persistent manner; not transmitted by mechanical inoculation; transmitted by grafting; not transmitted by seed.
Detection
ELISA method is used for detection of virus.
