Carnation mottle virus
Family : Tombusviridae
Genus : Alphacarmovirus
Acronym : CarMV
Introduction
Carnation mottle virus (CarMV) is a plant pathogenic virus belongs to the genus Carmovirus and occurs naturally only in the Caryophyllaceae but can be transmitted experimentally to other species. Very common and widespread in carnation, many commercial cultivars being infected.
Major Diseases
Mottling and Distortion Disease
Geographical Distribution
Wide spread throughout India where carnation crops are cultivated.
Particle Morphology
An RNA-containing virus with isometric particles about 30 nm in diameter.
Transmission Method
Transmitted by Aphis gossypii in a semi-persistent manner; transmitted by mechanical inoculation (with difficulty); not transmitted by contact between plants.
Detection
ELISA method is used for detection of virus.
Host Range and Symptomatology
Host | Symptoms |
