Chrysanthemum virus B
Family : Betaflexiviridae
Genus : Carlavirus
Acronym : CVB
Introduction
A virus widespread throughout the country in cultivated varieties of chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemum dwarf mottle virus, chrysanthemum mild mosaic virus, chrysanthemum necrotic mottle virus, chrysanthemum vein mottle virus, chrysanthemum virus Q are few strains usually present.
Major Diseases
Mild leaf mottling Disease/Chlorosis and Necrosis Disease
Geographical Distribution
Chrysanthemum growing regions, especially in Himalayan region.
Particle Morphology
A virus with flexuous particle of about 685 nm long.
Transmission Method
Transmitted by a vector Myzus persicae; Transmitted in a non-persistent manner. Virus transmitted by mechanical inoculation; transmitted by grafting; not transmitted by contact between plants; not transmitted by seed.
Detection
Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), northern hybridization and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).
Host Range and Symptomatology
Host | Symptoms |
Chrysanthemum | Prominent green vein banding, mild leaf mottling, chlorotic and/or necrotic spots on leaves and occasional flower distortion. |
N. clevelandii, N. glutinosa, N. rustica, Petunia hybrida and Vicia faba | Mild leaf mottling, chlorotic occasional flower distortion. |
