Mesta yellow vein mosaic virus
Family : Geminiviridae
Genus : Begomovirus
Acronym : MeYVMV
Introduction
There are two cultivated species of Mesta namely Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus) and Rosella (Hibiscus subdanifolia). In eastern India Mesta yellow vein mosaic disease is associated with Mesta yellow vein mosaic virus and isolate of Cotton leaf curl Multan beta satellite (CLCuMB) while in northern India association of another species namely Mesta yellow vein mosaic Bahraich virus (MeYVMBV) and an isolate of Ludwigia leaf distortion beta satellite (LuLDB) are reported. Analysis of diseased kenaf showed presence of atleast three different monopartite begomovirus. In eastern and southern India Mesta yellow vein mosaic virus (MeYVMV) and Tomato leaf curl Joydebpur virus (ToLCJV) while in northern India a new begomovirus namelt Kenaf leaf curl virus (KLCuV).
Major Diseases
Yellow vein disease
Geographical Distribution
Throughout Mesta growing regions of India.
Particle Morphology
Geminate particles
Transmission Method
Transmitted by white fly vector ( Bemisia tabaci ) in a persistent manner.
Detection
PCR and ELISA
Host Range and Symptomatology
Host | Symptoms |
Hibiscus cannabinus (Kenaf) | Upward leaf curling and stunted growth |
Hibiscus Sudanifolia (Rosella) | Yellowing of leaf veins followed by complete chlorosis of leaves. |
