Introduction
Potato virus X (PVX) is a plant pathogenic virus found mainly in potato. It belongs to the genus Potexvirus and found where ever potatoes are grown. It is largely confined to members of Solanaceae.

Wide spread in potato culitivating regions.
Particle Morphology
Elongated particles of 515 nm in length.
Transmission Method
Transmitted by means not involving a vector. Transmission is by contact either plant to plant or by humans, animals or machinery passing through a crop. It is highly contagious and once attached to a surface such as clothing the virus can remain ineffective for many hours provided the surface is wet.
Detection
ELISA and RT-PCR.

| Solanum tuberosum (potato) | Symptoms vary, some strains symptomless, others induce necrotic streaks. |
| Brassica rapa L (turnip) | Mild mosaic, mottling and curling of leaves followed by overall stunting of plants. |
| Capsicum annuum (Bell pepper) | Mild mosaic, mottling and curling of leaves. |
| Zinnia elegans Jacq (Zinnia) | Mosaic, mottling. |
| Lycopersicon esculentum (tomato) | Vein clearing, mild mosaic, downward rolling of leaves and reduction in size of the leaves. |
