Sugarcane bacilliform Morocco virus
Family : Caulimoviridae
Genus : Badnavirus
Acronym : SCBMOV
Introduction
Sugarcane bacilliform virus (SCBV) was first observed in Cuba in 1985, and then in sugarcane in many countries around the world including India. It causes chlorosis, mottling, and leaf freckle symptoms, but many of the infected plants are symptomless. Based on the sequencing of the isolates, two distinct species are known. They are Sugarcane bacilliform Morocco virus (SCBMOV) and Sugarcane bacilliform Ireng Maleng virus (SCBIMV).
Major Diseases
Chlorosis or leaf freckle disease
Particle Morphology
Non enveloped bacilliform shaped particles of 30 x 130-150 nm
Transmission Method
Primarily through vegetative means, secondary spread through mealybug vector, Sacharicoccus sachhari.
Detection
PCR
Host Range and Symptomatology
