Sugarcane streak mosaic virus
Family : Potyviridae
Genus : Poacevirus
Acronym : SCSMV
Introduction
Sugarcane streak mosaic virus (SCSMV), genus Poacevirus, family Potyviridae, is a prominent virus known to infect sugarcane in India and other Asian countries. It incites symptoms similar to the ones caused by Sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV) and thus indistinguishable based on symptoms. Besides, mixed infection of SCSMV with SCMV is also common in sugarcane. In India it is also reported to infect sorghum plants.
Major Diseases
Stripe disease
Geographical Distribution
All sugarcane regions
Particle Morphology
Flexuous filamentous particles resembling potyviruses.
Transmission Method
Primarily through vegetative means and also by mechanical sp inoculation. No vectors known so far.
Detection
ELISA and RT-PCR
Host Range and Symptomatology
