A new virus namely Ginger chlorotic fleck virus (GCFV) with possible affinities to sobemovirus in ginger imported into Australia from many countries including India.

Major spread is through infected rhizomes, vector unknown.

So far only based on symptoms as exact causal virus is not yet determined.
