Lettuce mosaic virus

Family : Potyviridae
Genus : Potyvirus
Acronym : LMV

Introduction

It is a potyvirus transmitted by aphids and seeds. Virus is known to occur wherever lettuce is grown. It's virions are 750 nm long and 15 nm width with flexuous rod morphology. It induces mild mosaic and stunted growth in lettuce.

Major Diseases

Mosaic disease.

Geographical Distribution

Delhi

Particle Morphology

Flexuous rods measuring 750 nm x 15 nm

Transmission Method

Transmitted non-persistently by aphids and seeds upto 3 to 10%. It can also be transmitted mechanically through sap inoculation.

Detection

ELISA and RT-PCR

Host Range and Symptomatology

Lactuca sativa (lettuce) Mild mosaic and stunting.
