Introduction
Banana bract mosic virus is a plant pathogenic virus of the family Potyviridae. The virus eventually takes away a plants ability to produce fruit and banana potyvirus is Synonym. The disease is characterized by mosaic symptoms on flower bracts, irregularly scattered spindle shaped streaks along the petiole and mottled discoloration on pseudostem. It also infects cardamom.

Particle Morphology
Virions usually flexuous filamentous particle of 750 nm.
Transmission Method
Primarily through vegetative means while secondary spread in the field is through the aphid, Pentalonia nigronervosa in a non-persistent manner.
Detection
Indirect double antibody sandwich ELISA, Immuno-capture PCR (IC-PCR) and Reverse transcription PCR (RT-PCR) .

Host | Symptoms |
Banana | Spindle shaped lesions on leaf lamina and petiole and dark reddish-brown streak or mosaic pattern on the pseudo sheath and bracts of the inflorescence. |
Cardamom | Continuous or discontinuous spindle shaped yellow or light green intravenous streaks along the veins and midrib. These streaks later coalesce together and impart yellow or light green colour to veins. Discontinuous spindle shaped mottling were also seen on pseudostem and petioles. In sever cases, tillering was suppressed. |
