Name of the technology :
Diagnosis of Foc using molecular marker.

Inventors

  1. Thangavelu, R.

Procedure / Summary :

Designed and Developed Foc specific SCAR marker, which can distinguish pathogenic Fusarium from non pathogenic and also detect the presence of Fusarium in the corm and pseudostem. This was validated by gel based and RT-PCR based assays using 167 Foc isolates, 24 VCGs belong to race-1, 2 and 4, two isolates of F. oxysporum, 11 isolates of other species of Fusarium and 32 isolates of non-pathogenic Fusarium. Besides, to detect the Foc pathogen present in soil, the easiest method of DNA extraction from just 2 g of soil without PCR inhibitors was standardized and validated using the DNA isolated from soil samples were collected from various regions of Fusarium wilt infected and un-infested fields grown with different banana cultivars.

Applications

Useful to diagnose and detect pathogenic Foc of India particularly race-1 and race-2 Foc in plant and soil so that farmers can able to find out the presence of the pathogen at an early stage of disease development in plant and before planting in soil

Advantages

No technologies are available to detect the pathogenic Foc in India

Status of Commercialization : Not applicable
