Name of the technology :
Development and application of effective botanical cow urine based field formulation in management of collar rot of apple caused by Phytophthora cactorum

Inventors

  1. Dr. I. M. Sharma
  2. Dr. Durga Prashad
  3. Dr. Kishore Khosla

Procedure / Summary :

Field formulation of cow urine decoction was developed by putting three most effective botanicals namely 10 kg of Melia azedarach seed, 5 Kg fresh levees of Murraya koeningi and Eucalyptus against collar rot pathogen in 50 lts of cow urine and kept for fermentation for 35 days. Thereafter it is filtered through cheese/ muslin cloth and used immediately. Alternatively, it was pasteurized at 58oC for 2 hrs for three consecutive days and stored for further use. Soil drenching of this cow urine decoction (CUD) based formulation thrice @7.5% (10lts/tree up to 2 ft around the stem) during March, June and August was most effective increased the average shoot growth by 32.6 cm against 6.1 cm in untreated plants and provided lesion recovery up to 31.6. Addition this formulation for three consecutive years completely recovered the collar rot plants

Applications

Soil drenching of this cow urine decoction (CUD) based formulation thrice @7.5% (10lts/tree up to 2 ft around the stem) during March, June and August was most effective

Advantages

Technology developed is effective, eco-friendly and economical. Since all the ingredients of the formulation are easily and locally available, hence it has become popular amongst the apple Groweres of the state.

Status of Commercialization : Not applicable
