About the project

Phytophthora, Fusarium and Ralstonia are three major plant pathogens affecting a large number of crops ranging from vegetables, fruits, spices, plantation crops, ornamentals, pulses and oil seeds. The Outreach Project on Phytophthora, Fusarium and Ralstonia of Horticultural and Field Crops (PhytoFuRa)is a flagship program of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) comprising of researchers from 17 participating centres with Indian Institute of Spices Research as the lead centre. The project was officially launched at New Delhion 23 Feb 2009 by the then Deputy Director General (Horticulture), Dr. HP Singh. The crops covered are apple, banana, black pepper, brinjal, chickpea, chilli, citrus, coconut, cocoa, colocasia, ginger, guava, oil seeds, pigeon pea, potato, safflower and tomato. Dr. M.Anandaraj, Director, Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode has been identified to coordinate this network project.PhytoFuRa wasoriginally sanctioned in XI Plan with a total outlay of Rs.19.65 crores.Considering the good progress made, ICAR has given its consent to continue this project during XII Plan with an additional grant of Rs.14.45 crores.
